USIP Online Course: Strategic Peacebuilding
This online course is targeted at international professionals with competence in their own craft who will participate in a capacity strengthening mission to a foreign region undergoing reform or transition. Most interventions today are capacity strengthening missions. A lack of capacity is often the root cause of the conflict, and reconstruction and stabilization require capacity strengthening with individual stakeholders and across societal sectors. While many examples in this course come from the security, stabilization and justice sectors, its core lessons (including the role and key attributes of an effective advisor, capacity assessment, sensitivity to dynamics of culture and conflict, building local partnerships and coordinating efforts) provide fundamental knowledge and skills for any strategic advisor.
