Each year, WOVEN holds a campaign to inspire action that can allow us to end violence in our lifetime. This year’s theme is ‘Question Violence.’

Our Art Exhibition and Panel Event at CUNY – September 19

WOVEN had a wonderful event on September 19th at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center in New York City. Featured was a colorful Question Violence art exhibition and a panel of speakers. The event brought together peace-driven people with shared goals. The panelists were:

• Marcia Y. Cantarella, PhD, Author, Educator and Thought Leader
• Jamie Dobie, Executive Director, Peace is Loud
• Youssef Mahmoud, Senior Advisor, International Peace Institute

Elizabeth Howard of WOVEN served as our moderator.

We spent the evening not only hearing from our panelists, each of whom gave memorable presentations, but also participating in a lively Q & A session in which everyone could actively engage. A networking reception followed.

We appreciate that so many came to learn and also to collaborate.

Our Question Violence Poster Campaign in New York City

Throughout the month of September, WOVEN held a campaign to feature Question Violence art in phone kiosks and bus shelters throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The art will be in place until Thursday, October 6th. We encourage everyone to participate in this campaign by taking selfies at these outdoor art installations, all to promote peace.

Here’s how to get involved:

1.    Use the map to find the kiosk location nearest to your home or workplace.

2.    Take selfies for your friends and followers on social media and blogs that are generally consistent with WOVEN’s mission.

3.    When you post the picture, use these hashtags so that your pictures tie in with the WOVEN campaign:

And be sure to tag WOVEN on Facebook and Instagram.

We can’t wait to see your selfies! It’s all for a great cause, so thank you so much for spreading the critical message that everyone should question violence.
